Considering the impact of COVID-19, we're committed to doing what's best for SMECO members and our staff. At this time, we are conducting no contact pick-ups. During a no contact pick-up, we are collecting appliances from inside and outside (Garage, porch, outbuilding, driveway or curbside) customer-member residences with PPE requirements and social distancing in place. Our team will safely collect and recycle your unit without contact with you.

For a no contact pick-up, you must print the release form provided in this application and place it inside your refrigerator or freezer prior to pick-up.

  • $50 reward for recycling an old, working refrigerator or freezer.
  • $25 reward if you also recycle an old, working room air conditioner or dehumidifier at the same time as your refrigerator or freezer.
  • You must be a SMECO residential customer-member with a valid account number.
  • You must own the refrigerator, freezer, dehumidifier, or room air conditioner.
  • The refrigerator and/or freezer must be 10 to 30 cubic feet.
  • The refrigerator, freezer, and/or dehumidifier must be cleaned out, and room air conditioner must be removed from a window prior to pick-up.
  • Your appliances must be in working condition.
  • Ensure that the refrigerator or freezer is secured and cannot be opened by children.
  • There must be a clear and safe passage for appliance removal. We cannot remove railings or move furniture.
  • Elevator access is required for any refrigerators or freezers located above the second floor.
  • An adult age 18 or older must be present at the time of pick-up.
  • Your appliances will be picked-up, at no charge, from the service address listed on your residential account.
  • Limit of two large appliances (refrigerators and/or freezers) and two small appliances (room air conditioners and/or dehumidifiers) per SMECO residential account per year.

* Miniature and commercially sized refrigerators and freezers do not qualify. Any freezer must be a standalone unit. SMECO reserves the right to revise program requirements and incentive levels at any time. Rebates are subject to availability.
